"It was a great night, one of the best attended awards ceremonies I have seen," said Clifford Chance partner Huw Jenkins. "Particularly impressive was the spread of awards and, as a result, a wide spectrum of attendees. Next year you'll need the Exhibition and Convention Centre."
Jenkins' comments followed last year's Hong Kong Law Awards, where some 460 guests crammed into the prestigious grand ballroom of the Conrad Hotel. While the Conrad is the venue of choice once again this year, the spread of awards is even more impressive 12 months on and, as a result, so is the spectrum of attendees.
With a similar attendance figure expected at the Conrad on 23 September, the 2005 ALB Hong Kong Law Awards promises to be more exciting than ever.
Representatives from the in-house legal departments of the calibre of PCCW, Hutchison Whampoa, COSCO Pacific, Prudential Assurance and AIG among others, will join their peers from the major investment houses, such as Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley and UBS, at the awards.
In addition, the evening will have a truly international feel with the Hong Kong legal community being joined this year by firms from around the Asia-Pacific region.
Partners from PRC firms such as AllBright Law Offices, Boss & Young, Jun He Law Offices and Llinks Law Office, are flying down from the Mainland. And they will be joined by their peers from as far a field as India (Amarchand Mangaldas and Luthra & Luthra Law Offices), Japan (Anderson Mori & Tomotsune), the Philippines (Romulo Mabanta Buenaventura Sayoc & de Los Angeles), Taiwan (Lee and Li), Thailand (Chandler & Thong-ek Law Office) and Vietnam (YKVN).
Never one to rest on its laurels, ALB magazine has once again brought innovation to its annual flagship event with the introduction of a number of in-house categories as well as the incorporation of a number of core categories from the inaugural ALB Deals of the Year Awards Asia-Pacific SuperDeals.
Regular readers of the magazine will know that throughout the year, ALB has recognised excellence from the legal and investment banking professions in its regional Deals of the Year Awards.
The ALB Deals of the Year Awards Asia-Pacific SuperDeals 2005 is the exciting culmination of ALB's review of the most significant, innovative and complex legal work across the Asia-Pacific region in 2004.
All in all, it's the perfect excuse to don your finest tuxes and frocks and come out and celebrate the achievements of both yourselves and your peers. Always an entertaining evening - where else will you see your legal peers juggling sticks of fire (bringing a whole new meaning to the concept of stage fright) - the ALB Awards once again offers you the opportunity to mix business with pleasure during an evening of fine dining, high spirits and free flowing wine and beer.
