Robert Milliner has announced he will step down from the role of chief executive partner at Mallesons Stephen Jaques at the end of the year. Managing partner Stuart Fuller will replace Milliner from January 2012.
Milliner, who is also chairman of the Large Law Firm Group, said he has enjoyed leading the firm during a time of significant change, but is ready to pass on the baton. “The firm has a clear strategy for its future growth and I am confident that, under Stuart’s leadership, the firm will continue the significant momentum that we have within the firm,” he said. It is understood Milliner will continue in his role as chairman of the LLFG until the end of the year, when the board will decide on his replacement. Another law firm representative is expected to be appointed to the position.
Fuller joined Mallesons in 1990. He was made a partner in 1997, and became managing partner in 2006. In these roles, Fuller has led a number of key initiatives around the firm’s clients and practice - which, most recently, have included initiatives in financial market regulation and energy and resources, as well as the firm’s international practice. Fuller has also continued to specialize in securitisation and structured finance and is the current chairman of the Australian Securitisation Forum. “The firm is in a terrific position, and I plan to lead a team that is restless and relentless about achieving our next goals. I am humbled by the confidence placed in me by my partners to lead the firm over the next period,” said Fuller.
Tim Bednall, Mallesons’ chairman, added: “Stuart has been a key member of the management team for five years and understands intimately the firm, its clients and the international markets in which we operate. All these skills will ensure that we remain a leading firm in the Asian region.”
Between now and 1 January 2012, when Fuller will officially take up the role, both men, along with the management team, will work closely together to ensure a smooth handover of responsibilities.
