Middletons has ramped up its energy and resources expertise with the appointment of former Johnson Winter & Slattery partner Fiona Melville.
Melville has specialised in energy and resources law for the past 14 years and has specific experience in the development of trading electricity, gas, carbon and environmental products. She will join the Sydney office of Middletons.
"Fiona is the first port of call for companies seeking advice in dealing in environmental products such as carbon permits and renewable energy certificates and is well across energy regulatory issues." said Middletons national managing partner, Nick Nichola.
Melville’s skills and expertise in the sector will be particularly valuable to the firm as companies seek to prepare for the planned carbon tax regime. She has previously prepared carbon trading contracts for AFMA, AGL and Macquarie Capital, as well as preparing environmental product contracts for electricity retailers and generators such as Integral Energy, Infigen and CS Energy and advising Onesteel, Energy Developments and CSR on the national short term gas trading market and long term gas supply contracts.
The appointment comes only a month after former Middletons energy and resources partner Robert Desmond defected for International firm Holman Fenwick Willan (HFW) as part of its new Perth team.
