Addisons competition partners Kathryn Edghill and Graham Maher have moved the firm's competition practice to Sydney-based technology, media and telecommunications firm Truman Hoyle.
Edghill, also formerly the head of competition at Corrs Chambers Westgarth, was attracted to Truman's "enormous" growth and its Asia-Pacific client base. "A key determinant for our move was the glowing praise the firm received from the clients we spoke to, particularly those in the TMT space, and the fact that the firm had a low staff turnover," she said.
After some mutual discussion, both sides quickly reached an agreement. It helped that Edghill had previously worked with Truman partners Shane Barber, Fiona Inverarity and Shawn Skyring at PricewaterhouseCoopers Legal. "Truman Hoyle wanted to have a competition and regulatory practice and we wanted to move to a firm like Truman Hoyle. I knew their work and practice, so the decision was relatively straightforward on our part," she said.
The appointment will also see Edghill work for the same firm as her daughter Bridget, who has recently been promoted to senior lawyer. The younger Edghill currently works for the TMT team, meaning that mother and daughter are not likely to work together.
"Truman's technology practice is very dynamic and both its strong Asia-Pacific focus and clientbase fit in well with us. This is exciting given the developments in China, where competition law is about to be introduced; and also in Singapore where competition law is still in the early stages," said Edghill.
Most of Edgill's clients from Addisons will move to Trumans, along with senior lawyer Jenny McLean. Trumans has recently promoted Venus Amoro-Njuguna and Keren Wadling to senior lawyer level in the corporate team.
