IPOS' reply on amendments to Section 51 and 52 of the Patents Act

On 3 January 2008, the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS) issued a statement, further to their response of 15 March 2007, regarding the proposed amendment of sections 51 and 52 of the Patents Act. These proposed amendments to the Patents Act and rules were discussed during the Public Consultation from July to August 2006.

Acceptance of Protocol amending the TRIPS Agreement

The WTO General Council had on 6 December 2005 decided to adopt for acceptance the Protocol amending the agreement on trade-related aspects of intellectual property rights (TRIPS). This Protocol seeks to implement the Doha Declaration on the TRIPS Agreement and Public Health and will be entered into force once two thirds of WTO member countries have accepted it.

Serious Criminal Proceedings in Singapore Bank Defection Case

Seven former employees of Citibank appeared in the Singapore District Court on 23 January on charges relating to alleged unauthorised access to computer data at the Bank. Some of the accused face additional charges concerning alleged disclosure of customer information and destruction of evidence.

CCS Issues its First Infringement Decision

The Competition Commission of Singapore (CCS) has issued its first infringement decision on 9th January 2008 for bid rigging or collusive tendering by players in the pest control industry and has by its decision levied financial penalties on the companies involved. This decision is significant as it sets the tone, direction and seriousness with which CCS views anti-competitive conduct.
